Lake St Clair Opening weekend Muskie tourney

Me and a friend of mine entered the Muskies Inc chapter 58 Opening weekend tournament as casters. We were one of I think 3 or 4 boats that were only casting.

We stayed in Anchor bay for both days and fished till we dropped. Because we wnated to make sure that we could do our best pattering the fish we never threw the same baits. While dale tended to tstick with bucktails & Kickin’ minnows & I threw glide baits, body baits and plastics like bulldawgs and things like that. The first days was the only day that we caught fish because of a cold front that moved through and churned up the lake on Sunday.

We fished a variety of places all over the bay, making sure to stick to weed beds and breaks with weeds on them. Dale was the only one that caught muskie, I on the other hand just killed the pike! and I mean lots & lots of’em. We only photo’d a handful of the fish that we caught on saturday.

The biggest fish was a 48 1/2″ that dale caught on a 10″ perch kickin’ minnow, 11 foot of water over a weed bed.

The top 3 fish for the tourney were 52″, 51 3/4″ and 51 1/2″. So as casters we did really well against the trollers. But we still didn’t place. There is still a couple of tournies to go this year and we’re definitely entering them.

The Muskies Inc Tourney is an object scoring system and catch & release only. They certify your board & give you and object to place in the photo that way they can’t be faked.

Here are the pic’s from saturday. The funniest catch of the day was a 10″ rock bass on a 10″ kickin minnow! It’s amazing how aggressive those little fish are!
